From the Classroom to the Gridiron: Why Football Season Is Basically Teacher Season

Some people think football season starts in August. Teachers know better — we’ve been in preseason since the first PD day.

Last Saturday night, my beloved Pittsburgh Steelers hit the field in Jacksonville, and here in Gwinnett County, Friday Night Lights officially kick off this Friday, August 15th. That means one thing: it’s time for pep talks, game plans, and maybe a few questionable calls from the stands.

But here’s the thing — being a teacher and being part of football season? Basically the same job.

  • Lesson Plans = Playbooks — Both require strategy, adaptability, and the occasional miracle.
  • Hall Duty = Defensive Line — Eyes up, no one’s sneaking past you.
  • Grading Papers = Fourth Quarter Grind — You’re tired, it’s late, but you push through for the win.

And for the ultimate crossover moment, we’ve got the gear to match. Our “Football Coach – Like a Normal Coach, Only Much Cooler” tee is perfect for the sidelines, the teacher’s lounge, or the post-game pizza run.

So whether you’re calling plays or calling roll, remember: the season may be long, but so is your list of hilarious comebacks.
